A Session That Moves at Baby’s Pace
When I arrived, mom was upstairs feeding the baby. Dad met me at the door with their two dogs—one small, one large—both calm and curious. While baby finished eating, I walked through their home looking for the best light, letting the morning settle in gently.
That gentle beginning is everything these sessions are meant to be.
We don’t rush - we move slowly following your baby’s lead.
Lifestyle Newborn Sessions typically last around 50-90 minutes, with plenty of space for feedings, diaper changes, or simply rocking together in the quiet. As you hold your baby close, I’ll be there to gently capture those beautiful little moments.
Finding The Perfect Setting
When I saw the tall windows filling the master bedroom with soft, natural light, I knew it would be the perfect place to begin. That one room offered a calm, cozy setting—room enough for the whole family, including their two dogs quietly close by.
Most sessions take place in 1–3 rooms of your home, depending on your space and where the light feels right. Common spots include the nursery, your main bedroom, or a bright living area that feels comfortable and familiar. No need to deep clean the entire house—just tidy up the rooms we’ll use. (Honestly, it’s totally fine to tuck clutter away out of sight.)
If the weather cooperates, we might step outside to capture a few moments, just like we did in this session under the shade of apple trees in their backyard orchard—your home is a place of peace and belonging, the perfect setting for heartfelt images.
The Beauty Is in the Details
When you think back on these early days, it won’t just be the big milestones you remember—it’ll be the tiniest things. The way your baby’s toes curled against your hand. The soft swirl of hair at the crown of their head. How their fingers wrapped tightly around just one of yours.
During your session, I love to document the little details. They’re the ones that tend to stay with you. When preparing for your session, consider the little details such as, trimming your nails and choosing soft, neutral tones for your hands. These small touches help keep the focus on what matters most: the love between you.

Styling Your Session
For our photoshoot - dad wore a cream sweater, baby was in a soft waffle-knit onesie, and mom chose a long, neutral dress with a subtle floral pattern and softly gathered sleeves. Their outfits created a palette that felt warm, natural, and beautifully cohesive—each piece complementing the others without pulling focus.
For newborn sessions, I recommend: soft textures, neutral tones, and outfits that feel like an extension of your home’s light and mood. Subtle patterns, layers and earthy tones tend to photograph beautifully, while bold prints or logos can distract from the quiet moments we’re capturing. Pets Are Family, Too
The family’s two dogs were delightful and a truly adorable pair. As a dog momma myself with two pups of my own, I know how deeply pets are part of your family—witnessing your pets welcoming a new little one is truly a magical feeling.
If you’d like your pets to be part of the session, they’re welcome to join for as much or as little as feels right for your family. Whether they’re nearby for a few special moments or quietly settled in their favorite spot, the focus is on what feels natural for everyone.
A few tips:
- Prepare pets ahead of time: A walk or play helps them unwind.
- Bring favorite toys or treats: Keeps them engaged and happy.
- Choose familiar spots: Pets feel safest in their favorite places.
- Be patient and flexible: Each pet adjusts differently to new faces and surroundings.
Including your pets in your lifestyle session reflects your full, loving family—every heartbeat, wag, and nuzzle.
